This Women's History Month, we are celebrating some of the amazing women who have contributed to the world of music. These 12 Black women composers have broken barriers and made significant contributions to the classical music sphere.

  2. Margaret Bonds: An important figure in the 20th-century classical music world, who collaborated closely with poet Langston Hughes.

  3. Brittney (B.E.) Boykin: A composer, pianist, and organist who specializes in spiritual and gospel music.

  4. Valerie Coleman: A Grammy-nominated flutist and composer, and one of the Top 35 Women Composers in Classical Music.

  5. Jordyn Davis: A talented composer and conductor who weaves together various musical influences.

  6. Tania Leon: A distinguished composer and conductor, recognized for her contributions to contemporary classical music.

  7. Jessie Montgomery: A Grammy-winning violinist and composer known for her soulful and vibrant compositions.

  8. Dorothy Rudd Moore: Co-founder of the Society of Black Composers and an accomplished composer in her own right.

  9. Undine Smith Moore: Known as the "Dean of Black Women Composers," Moore was an influential composer and educator.
